Cattai sits on the Hawkesbury River north of Windsor, and the national park there takes in Cattai Farm, one of the earliest land grants in the colony. The area is river flats, bush and small farms, around 65 kilometres from the Sydney CBD.
Cattai Farm was one of the first land grants in the colony and parts of it are still standing. We are a good deal younger at a hundred and twenty odd years, but the principle is the same: work the same patch for long enough and you learn what it wants.
